Naxos 5 May Chalki to Moni

Jan led 3 intrepid walkers on the hard option today -I took the easy option.  Weather was not promising when they were dropped off before Chalki.

We met the other group at the Church of Our Lady of the Mountain Dew, Panaghia Drossia, one of the oldest churches in the Balkans. Wall paintings there are dated back to 9th C; youngest paintings are 15th C.
At Moni we found some lovely sophisticated pottery but prices of 85 euros for a small dish dampened our enthusiasm.  Women there are still weaving with hand looms. Also we visited a citron still.  There they make a liqueur from the leaves, not the fruit, of a very large citrus, and sell all their product on the island.  The taste was pleasant; the guide, a member of the family owning the business, spoke excellent English.
