Our taxi ride from Piraeus cost an outrageous 25 euros because the driver could not speak English and stopped several times to quiz other taxi drivers. We cheered up on seeing the area and tiny apartment where we would stay for 4 days.

The owner, Ioannis, had very good English and gave us valuable information about Athens and this area. He was very friendly and obliging. He suggested we walk to the nearby Stadio (Olympic Games 1896) before having dinner, perhaps at the closest pizza place, Colibri. We followed his advice and saw many people using outdoor fitness equipment or running along a path above the Stadio. Meanwhile the sun was setting behind the Parthenon - very atmospheric.
Colibri was a cut above any pizza joint in Australia. Outdoor dining in a tree-lined street, people waiting for a table, a happy atmosphere with coloured lights and many young couples or families.
